First she had thought it was a good night And she was sort of happy And she felt all right Then something happened to change her mood The guy she was with, oh boy, he was cute suddenly told her he weren' going to stay with her for too long a time And she was hurt, falling out of her dream Helplessness can be so strong when revealed Why can't he say what she's trying to tell him Why can't he say what she wants to believe Why does it hurt so much, why is it evil that she's somebody else's girl already First he looked forward to seeing her that night Untilshe came everything seemed all right Then he remembered how she used to live And he forgot how much she could give All other times they had been tzogether without thinking of fear He said she'd been hurting him And it still was all right But disappointment can't be a good guide Why can't he say what she's trying to tell him Why can't he say what she wants to believe Why does it hurt so much, why is it evil that she's somebody else's girl already Where are they going, going alone?
